TW/TJ ANONYMOUS-CASE EVALUATION REPORT - July 12, 2008
This is the report on the personal material you have provided in response to indications from several extradimensional sources (psychics, guides, self-hypnosis, and idiopathic motor responses) that you may be the reincarnation of Thomas Jefferson. Additional material includes email and telephone communications, files on other cases, and historical information publicly available.
Thank you for providing information about other reincarnation claims that you have run across, including several purporting to be the reincarnation of Thomas Jefferson. We understand that Jim Tucker (Ian Stevenson's successor) has five people who have approached the UVA Institute of Personality Studies who believe they are the reincarnation of TJ. Another colleague who lives in the Charlottesville area has encountered at least another five claimants, including the Sri Chinmoy mentioned by you.
As you pointed out in an email, you "have a lot of competition out there." Within that context, we have used the psycho-physical model to evaluate evidence we currently have on your case.
Jefferson's celebrity and notoriety during a well-known era of history is likely one of the reasons so many people claim past-life links to him. With such a charged archetype or memory field generated by not only his own life, but by subsequent attention to him, it is no surprise that psychics pick up his name whenever they sense a person before them has some energy related to that era. Another reason for frequent "hits" on Jefferson could also be that the "Jefferson psychoplasm" is reincarnated at this time as a member of a multi-person, soul-cohort from that era. For this reason, this experiment is prepared to devote significant time to evaluating such cases.
As you know by now, from your explorations in the field, it is not possible for anyone to declare definitively today that any one person presently is the reincarnation of the soul genome that animated "Mr or Ms Blank" in the past. Scientists do not yet have conclusive proof that linear reincarnation actually happens. Even if we did, there remains strong disagreement about the criteria needed to identify specific past-lives. For instance, psychics have "identified" many different people as the reincarnation of Thomas Jefferson, as have past-life regressions, channeled messages from extra-dimensional beings, and personally recovered dreams or visions.
Given this set of circumstances, we use an evidence-evaluation model that considers only material that researchers can directly access and argue about (as you read in The Soul Genome). If we assume for the moment that the personal-psychoplasm, reincarnation hypothesis is valid, that model can compare the correspondences between Thomas Jefferson (or any historical figure) and several living persons. Its empirical approach can help us arrive at reasonable levels of confidence that the "Jefferson psychoplasm" is more likely to be found in person Y than in persons Q and Z. It is from this perspective we share with you provisional conclusions, detailed more fully below, about the data now available. In sum, we cannot assign a high level of confidence to the likelihood that if the "Jefferson psychoplasm" is reincarnated today, you have inherited it. However, it is likely that if individuals active in the Founding Era are reincarnated today, the psychoplasm animating you very likely came from one of them with a close association to Jefferson and others active on the scene at that time.
From the biographical and psychological material available on you, it appears that your past life may have had a political role of some significance in the early shaping of U.S. government institutions either as an elected or appointed official.
That hypothesis is based on your interest in political affairs, your military and government service, your keen interest in that historical period, residence in the same area, and a sensitivity to the effects of the era on current events. Your writing has a clarity of perception about the issues and events of that period that is not what one gets from political science classes.
Physical Genotype. Your facial biometrics vary by at least 4% from Jefferson's, and the physical difference is further underscored by a lack of significant correspondences of body type, hair type/patterns, ear forms, and hand-finger proportions. (No special matching marks have been indicated.) In other words, it is highly unlikely that the specific physical genotype that would have been the "Jefferson legacy" could have been the determining influence in your development. However, the genotype is consistent with Anglo-Saxon patterns of the era and region.
Cerebrotype Factor. On this factor-rating scale, your self-ratings compared with those that have been developed on Jefferson have one direct overlap and one or two adjacent measures (based on my adjustments). This suggests a similar cognitive profile, but one that also reflects your stronger inductive/analytical mode. I would (speculatively) characterize Jefferson as looking at an overall situation from the "outside" while you tend to look at it from "inside." The level of intelligence in both personalities is obviously very high, but the issue here is how it is applied.
Egotype Factor. There is a high level of correspondence between your emotional profile and Jefferson's. It suggests a similarly active, confident approach to important issues and acceptance of responsibility. But, I see you with a more steady, consistent emotional stance.
Personatype Factor. The correspondences between TW and TJ in this area fall in the mid-level of confidence (with one direct match and three adjacents). You are more introverted and trusting of others than he, while he was somewhat more independent.
Performatype Factor. Your concurrence with my ordering of priorities among the six categories gives me more confidence on this factor than the above three. I have rated the greatest differences between you and TJ to be in the Enterprising and Investigative areas (and different, but less so in the Realistic and Social areas). The closest area appears to be Artistic. I see you and TJ as within the "same ballpark" in the Conventional area. These differences are reflected in how the two of you appear to have spent your disposable time (i.e. not devoted to government roles).
Correspondences between TW and TJ in the four personality factors might be higher if we had more third-party corroboration (or they might be lower). However, the frankness with which you have communicated data about yourself is largely consistent with Paul's observations of your behavior, your "myspace" information, and our verbal and written communications.
As made clear in earlier communications, this is not an exact science. The evaluation protocol is still in the process of refinement as we work on more cases. Therefore, you should not take this assessment more seriously than it merits. Ultimately, you have to decide what feels comfortable for you.
This is given to you in the interest of testing the hypothesis set forth in The Soul Genome, not meant in any way to pass judgment on you or your personal research. On that basis we welcome any feedback and further communications (written or by phone). If you were to consider that this assessment has some merit and decide to do further research on your likely previous-life connections with this period of history, please feel free to contact us.
Notes of possible interest: The psychic hints about Jefferson from the woman you described as a possible Anne Willing Bingham, in terms of timing, would appear to more likely refer to Geo. Washington than Jefferson (since his Presidency was only two months old when Bingham died). The coincidences you have with Richard Bland Lee would encourage me, if I were you, to explore possible past-life connections with him and/or others in his cohort (which does include Jefferson's extended family and a number of others).
Abigail Adams, like all the possible cases you mentioned, has many who claim to be her reincarnation. My hope is that one day we will have enough scientific interest to do comparative evaluations not only between present and Founding Era lives, but also among the current claimants. I have been able to draw from some such research already done on Jefferson, the Madisons, the Adamses, and others.
Thank you for being such a patient and cooperative subject. Let's hope it has made a scientific contribution to research in this field.
